Age fabrication

Manufacturer age occurs when a person intentionally misrepresents his true age. This is usually done with the intent to garner privileges and status that would not otherwise be available to humans. This can be done through the use of oral or written statements or through changes, doctoring or forging of registration of acts of civil status. In some cases, the age is increased so as to make the cutoff at the minimum legal working age or in show business and professional sports. Sometimes its not the people themselves who lower their public age, but others around them such as publicists, parents, and other handlers. Most cases involve the use or addition of one or two years of their age. However, in more extreme cases, such as with al Lewis and Charo, a decade has been added or subtracted. Official government documents usually provide the correct date. Although uncommon in modern Western society, it is still possible for a person to not know their exact date of birth. Such a person may arbitrarily choose a date of birth, which, after research, proved to be false. This situation should not be considered a production of the age, as there is no obvious intent to deceive on the part of the individual. Subtracting time from them age is often called in English "to shave", while adding time in those era can be called "sleep".

Age fraud in association football

Fraud age is the age of the manufacture or use of false documents to gain advantage over opponents. In football, it is common amongst players belonging to Nations where records are not easily verifiable. The media often turn to the player with false documentation as "age-cheat". There are several reasons why players choose to use fake documents. European scouts are looking for young talented players from poorer countries to sign for a European club. The players know that there is less chance of being signed if they, for example, 23 years vs 17 years, as there will be less time for the club to player development. Manufacturer of age old also allows the player to enter the Junior competition. FIFA says that "over-age players have been wrongly entered into various youth competitions, often benefiting from an unfair advantage due to greater physical maturity compared to players of the appropriate age." In some cases, it is possible for the player to not know their date of birth, and to make a rough guess when it comes to obtaining official documents.
